Meet our muse, Maya Harris, a kind, beautiful soul using her creative voice to advocate for change. Recently, she created a mural on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles with painter Evan Mendel @awonderfulmistake
Who is Maya Harris?
Originally from Camarillo, California I was born on the Aries/ Pisces cusp and so you can often see this interplay between fire and water in my work. Flames in cool tones instead of warm ones, or shapes that dissolve into liquid, mist or smoke.
Being a mixed media artist, living in Los Angeles the past few years I have focused on abstract paintings on paper. A lot of my recent work features organic patterns one finds in nature, but in unnatural colors like neon or metallic. These patterns breathe, twist and morph into each other sometimes resembling roots or branches, water or flames.

Can you tell us more about the your experience while creating the Hollywood Blvd. Mural with Evan?
I have always appreciated Evan’s choice of subject. We wanted to bring a different face to the Walk of Fame, one that is not as often portrayed there.
We were going off of a rough sketch we put together that morning, and I found out that roll-up doors have a nearly impossible texture to paint with a brush. But it was pretty rewarding and we had fun, despite.
It was very surreal painting while the boulevard was still bustling with activity. Especially in the midst of this pandemic. Toward the end a woman walked up to us and held her hand over her heart for a few moments. She just wanted to say thank you, and that she lives down the street and was so happy she gets to walk past it every day. That moment made it worth it.
